We moved here after a bad experience with another Heritage hotel. We were here for just one night. The photos are a bit misleading to say the least. Our room was the Princess Suite. It was very dated and unkept. The electric sockets were hanging off the wall and I didn’t dare use them. The bath was dreadful, 2 plugs none of which fitted. When you ran the water it was dark brown and there is no way you would have used it. The shower head had no way to hang it and so my husband need to hold it so that I could wash. The bed was absolutely rock hard and I had no sleep. Add to that the sound of wildlife running up and and down the tin roof all night. The web site has pictures of a lovely pool but it was run down and obviously hadn’t been used for some time. The bar was well stocked and all the staff were lovely. There is a nice terrace with views across the polo field towards the mountains but beware of monkeys. Food was ok but we went to a lovely restaurant across the road and had some great and cheap food.

We stayed here 3 nights. Pros: Location - Easy access, bang on the highway Property - Good property, views, outdoors seating and a heritage wing to boast of Rooms palace wing - Comfortable with good views (suite room) Staff - Was polite and had equitable employment with good gender ratio. Enjoyed the little conversations Parking - Ample parking, so wasn’t a hassle Cons: Food - Very bad taste and quality, we preferred to eat at the restaurants right across the road. 1/3rd the price, better taste, similar quality. Also some days they wouldn’t serve ala carte, only buffet. Responsiveness - No one answers the phone at reception/housekeeping Toiletries - Not stocked standard dental kit /shower cap etc and is made worse by no one answered the extensions. Washroom ventilation- No ventilation in washrooms

Nice property in the lush green surroundings. It is a heritage property so you can expect to see some old valuables in pictures, furniture, decor, etc. We got 2 suites in Heritage wing. Both rooms were big size but furniture was in run down condition. Rooms are not properly maintained and even ac was broken in one room. Bathrooms are very basic when you look at the room charges. Food is decent and pool is nice. Overall compound could be better managed. I would rate 3/5.

A family of 4, we stayed for 7 nights at this tasteful, beautiful and hospitable home of the royals near the hills. We wanted a place with decent internet, close to an airport, that had the beauty and the weather of Himachal, but not the in-season rush of a Dalhousie or a Mcleodganj, and hence chose Taragarh in Baijnath, Palampur. All of us, including us oldies, have enjoyed the once in a lifetime thrill of paragliding at the nearby site of Bir-Biling. In and around, within an hour or two radius of the property, we have savoured the local delicacies of Kangdi Dham, Khatta Mutton Rice, Grilled Trout, Green Soda, Patte Wali Icecream Barfi, Kadi-Rajma, Lungdu, Lasiyada, Siddu, Fried Momos, Thukpa, etc. We've got our fill of important Hindu temples, exquisite Buddhist monasteries, and scenic tourist attractions in the same comfortable radius. We stayed in the suites in the new wing, but a stay in the charming old wing should be memorable as well. But best of all, the Taragarh Palace Resort felt like a comforting home, because of its warm and rooted people. If Himachal didn't prohibit outsiders from buying property, we might've considered a retirement home around here.
